Kho Hong-Seop

Abstract
Dry mouth is one of the most common oral conditions reported by the aged population. The number of patients visiting dental clinic for dry mouth and its related conditions is rapidly increasing with advent of aged society. Although aging process may affect the structure and function of saliva and salivary glands, diseases and medications rather than aging itself have been reported as major factors of salivary gland hypofunction. In this presentation, the results of published papers about the changes of structure and function of saliva and salivary glands are summarized. In addition, the etiology, diagnostic procedures, and treatment strategies for dry mouth are discussed.
